Fourteen Days Before The Big Move
Some say we are crazy. Some say we are admirable. I say that we have goals that we want to fulfill. No matter what it takes to get there, if it means the world to you, you will achieve that goal. Mine and my husbands' goals are to have a life with our kids and show them what we think life is supposed to be like. I recently took them from public school and now they are enrolled in an online school. Don't let me fool you. I did graduate High School but never did complete college (although I kept trying because I didn't want to come off as a 'failure' to my kids, so I kept re-enrolling at different points in my life). Needless to say, I am still a few classes away from earning my associates degree. The winner for me ... my kids still love me just as much. Last year when they would bring homework in grades 2 and 3, I would want to pull my hair out. Some of the questions, I couldn't even answer. So, what does this mom do? Just put a big X on the number question and kept going to the next. I would laugh at the thought of my kids being homeschooled. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would be a homeschool teacher to my kids. I didn't think Id ever have the patience. But I am. And a matter of fact, we are a month ahead of schedule. Not to mention, both have A's. The first week my husband literally told me to just re-enroll them in public school because we weren't done with week number one and we were all in tears. What threw me for a loop was learning the computer system that this particular online school used. I knew that once I had that, we would be just fine. I was determined and sat in front of that computer for hours on hours until I understood. Now they can complete two days within just a few hours. The past two years have been full of to-do lists, preparing us for our goal that we wanted so badly to achieve. Move from our home in Texas across 6 countries into Costa Rica with our two kids and four fur-babies. As others get ready for the holidays, me and my little family are preparing to make that move a reality. From starting off with having simple garage sales, getting rid of every single thing we would not take with us or would not help us move forward. What didn't get sold, went to Goodwill and family. From the girl wanting a big house, pool, barn, with every nook and cranny filled with something, down to five tubs of boxes filled with life saving things (and some kids stuff) is a pretty relieving feeling. It is amazing to see what can change in just twenty-four short months. I have always been one to think change is good. We have traveled to ten countries within the past couple of years, and each time, I see a local have something that may help us on our journey. We are within our last fourteen days before we make our drive through Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and finally Costa Rica. We have been working day and night getting all of our loose ends tied. When the morning of December 1st rolls around, my husband and I will slide into our Toyota Tacoma and travel to Lorado where we will receive our papers for our truck as well as ourselves to cross the border. From there, we will only drive during the day, on into Mexico towards the Pan American Highway. We know there will be some bumps in the road, but we also know we are as prepared as one can possibly be without having an armored truck. Camper shell, lights all the way around the top of the truck, a siren, machetes, taser gun and pepper spray. Us gringos are ready for a trip of a lifetime. We hope that you'll follow along with us as we plan to update daily. And remember 'a goal without a deadline is just a dream'. This life is yours. Create a beautiful template of your own.
